Who's Number One: Brady, Brees Or Rodgers?
The Patriots were held to a scoreless first half while the Dolphins racked up 17 before the half on Saturday. The Pats made adjustments on offense and defense and put up 27 unanswered points as they went on to win 27-24.
Ryan Johnston and Mike Flynn were filling in for Toucher & Rich and they talked with former Patriots linebacker Rosevelt Colvin about the close win.
What did the former linebacker take away from Saturday's tough win?
"I think you saw the luxury of having a guy like Tom Brady at quarterback because even if you give up 17 early points and you're down 17-0 offensively you still struggle, you can come out in the second half Bill and the coaching staff can make a few adjustments and Miami sort of self imploded. You got a 17 point lead in the NFL you got to be able to hold on to that, but that's why guys like Tom, guys like Peyton, guys like Drew as you saw last night they make the money they make because they are able to exploit those kind of teams and come back and get victories," Colvin said.
The Pats were missing three starters on offense Saturday afternoon and the Dolphins took advantage and got to Brady four times. When Colvin played was there ever a time when the plan going into a game was changed due opponents missing players on their side?
"It just happened to be a couple of guys who were out so they had an opportunity to change. If anybody reads into Bill and how he does things, for the most part he sticks with his game plan unless the game plan is just terribly wrong. When it comes to a unique opportunity in the middle of the game, I don't think that was something the Dolphins went into the ball game saying if these three guys get hurt we're going to blitz them a little bit more," Colvin said.
In the second half the Patriots found success when they spread it out and went with a lot of empty backfield. How does this help negate the blitz package or does it really negate it at all?
"It makes you show your hand because basically what they are doing is saying okay if you think you're going to blitz us then here we're going to put five guys out and we're going to see who can cover. That's been the pet peeve of the Patriots offense this season and in years past if you get up in their face and you got four or five guys that can play man-to-man coverage, that can bump and run and jam those receivers then tom has a hard time getting the ball where he wants to get it," the former linebacker said.
