BOSTON (CBS/AP) - It is a rare look at Whitey Bulger.
Late Wednesday night, his defense team released photos of him from his past, perhaps trying to portray him with more of a human touch.

WBZ-TV's I-Team obtained many of the photos back in June 2011.

Prosecutor Fred Wyshak complained to the judge Thursday, saying Bulger was trying to salvage his public reputation by showing himself "holding all sorts of animals," including dogs, parrots and a goat.
One photo shows Bulger sitting with a priest. A Boston lawyer says the priest is Monsignor Frederick Ryan, the former vice chancellor of the Boston archdiocese who was defrocked for allegedly sexually abusing teenage boys in the 1980s.
Bulger's lawyers still have not said whether Bulger will testify.
He's charged with participating in 19 murders.
