Where's William Bulger?
BOSTON (AP) — Boston mobster James "Whitey" Bulger had family supporters at his racketeering trial, but one person has been missing: His brother William Bulger.
William Bulger was once one of Massachusetts' most powerful politicians. He ruled the state Senate for nearly two decades with a razor wit and legislative arm-twisting. He also headed the five-campus University of Massachusetts system.
For the past few years, though, Bulger's legacy has been eclipsed by his older brother's prosecution.
"Whitey" Bulger was convicted Monday in federal court on 11 killings and other gangland crimes including extortion. Massachusetts prosecutors are weighing whether to pursue state murder charges against him.
William Bulger has made no public statements on his older brother's trial or conviction.
Other family members attended the trial, including another Bulger brother, John "Jackie" Bulger, and several of William Bulger's children.
