What's He Wearing? Where's He Sleeping? A Flurry Of Blizzard Queries For Baker
BOSTON (CBS) -- On any other day, "Governor, do you think you're sleeping at home tonight?" is a question no politician wants to hear at a press conference.
But it hasn't been an ordinary couple of days in Massachusetts. It's the #blizzardof2015 – the first big test for new Gov. Charlie Baker.
"I do think I'm sleeping at home tonight," Baker responded. "I better be sleeping at home tonight."
There were plenty of serious questions for the governor about his decision to institute a statewide travel ban, coastal flooding and the temporary shutdown of a nuclear power plant. But Baker also took time to answer the silly ones.
Has he shoveled?
"I have not shoveled because I haven't been home," Baker said, adding that his wife is carrying on just fine without him.
Who's shoveling his driveway?
"We have neighbors who are helping us with that," he said.
And then there was his wardrobe.
Former Gov. Michael Dukakis famously donned a sweater when briefing Bay Staters on the Blizzard of 78. And Baker's predecessor Gov. Deval Patrick would break out his MEMA vest to lead the Commonwealth in trying times.
So it was rather startling for the press to see Baker in a suit during Monday night's briefings, only to switch to a more casual sweater on Tuesday.
"Today is a snow day," Baker said. "I am dressed for a snow day."
