What Should Celtics Do With Nets' Lottery Pick
BOSTON (CBS) -- There's no "tank talk" in Boston this year, as the Celtics have their sights set on making the postseason for the second straight year.
You can argue that their playoff run late last season cost them a lottery pick in the draft, but they don't have to worry about that this season. The Celtics own the Brooklyn Nets' first-round pick in this summer's draft, which at the moment looks like it will land somewhere in the Top 3.
But what should the Celtics do with that pick? The Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Zo & Bertrand on Tuesday, and said he'd be willing to deal the pick for a proven player like Sacramento big-man DeMarcus Cousins.
Beetle thinks Cousins, with all his issues off the court, is damaged goods and wouldn't want to give up a potential Top 3 pick for him. For the Celtics and the Nets' pick, he belives patience is key.
"That pick, I believe, will be worth more in June than it is right now," said Bertrand. "If it ends up being the third pick, which is most likely, what did you lose between now and then? Nothing.
"You have a chance to have that pick be worth a lot more five months from now. On principle only, their best chance is going to be in the offseason," he said. "Cousins isn't going anywhere. If you end up with the fourth overall pick and [the Kings] still willing to do it, you do the deal. Right now, I'm not pulling that trigger.
"Patience, right now, is key," said Beetle. "We're getting close to figuring out how that pick can help them. Don't rush it."
