Weymouth Cancer Patient Gets Wish Granted By MFA
BOSTON (CBS) – Donny Jo Prevost has crammed several lifetimes' worth of memories into his 63 years, but it's only as of this month, that he can finally say his biggest wish has been granted.
Prevost has several passions. He is a combat veteran, former rock and roll front man, Civil War reenactor, and a talented, self-taught painter.
"I just want to create," Prevost says.
The 63-year-old's energy seems limitless, despite his diagnosis. "I have lung cancer, lymph cancer, moving to my stomach and through my spine, it has arrived in my brain," he says. "They are telling me that my life is at great risk."
With Donny's diagnosis, though, came an idea. What if some of his acrylics left the walls of his Weymouth studio and ended up on display at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts?
"And it worked, Jim, I couldn't believe it. I was like ah. I don't know what to say, I don't even know what to say about it."
Donny's medical team coordinated with the Dream Foundation to make it happen. They're kind of a Make-A-Wish group, but for terminally ill adults.
"We know that he's good enough to be in the MFA and that is the most incredible thing that could possibly happen to him," his wife, Theresa Provost says.
Seeing his work hanging in the museum was almost too much.
"It was the first thing I said to myself," he recalled. "Well I'll be darned! Look at this. It was like my God!"
The paintings will be on display at the Museum of Fine Arts for all to see through November 12th.
