Wet Friday Leads to A Dry Pleasant Weekend
A large upper low is sitting over the Great Lakes, with a deep trough in place across the eastern US. SW winds aloft is steering a mild humid and moist airmass up the coast and into New England today. A warm front lies along the south coast this morning. Steady Showers are being directed up the CT river valley for the morning hours with lighter showers across eastern MA. By afternoon, the steady showers in the west will begin to shift eastward for the afternoon and evening. The is the potential for a few downpours which could create brief localized street flooding. Strong winds aloft will likely not be able to mix down to the ground, but any sort of elevated convection or thunderstorm activity could provide for some gusty winds, especially at the coast from the SE. As the warm front gradually lifts north a mild muggy airmass will push into SNE with highs climbing into the mid 60's. Warmest air will be found south of Boston near 66-69 this afternoon.
The heaviest rain and downpours will be shifting northward tonight, but scattered showers with drizzle will linger this evening especially in eastern MA as the cold front marches to the coast. Low clouds and fog with spotty drizzle will be in place early Saturday at the coast. Most areas will be picking up about .50-1.5" of rain by the time this ends early Saturday morning.
I am feeling more optimistic about Saturday as our models have trended to the more progressive scenario. SW winds at the surface will begin to shift in as the Upper Low begins to pull away. This will steer in drier air from the west behind the front. I expect cloud to partly sunny skies Saturday...with a summer like afternoon to develop! Temps will start off near 60 with clouds in the morning, but clouds will be clearing from west to east in the afternoon and temps will climb to 70-75...10 degrees above normal with the increasing sunshine!
With the Upper Low sitting just across the Canadian border Sunday morning, Cooler air will be moving in aloft and a down to the ground with a blustery WNW winds. Temperatures will be cooler Sunday with highs ranging in the upper 50's to Lwr 60's by the afternoon. Sunny to Partly sunny skies, as diurnal cumulus clouds will build with the cooler cyclonic air aloft. Best chance of a pop up afternoon shower will be across the north. The Cool NW breeze will last into Monday with Sunny to Partly skies with temps still in the 50's to Lwr 60's. Temps will start to warm back into the mid 60's by Tuesday with building high pressure into the midweek.
