Wet End To February

The onset of precipitation this morning will be mixed with sleet and freezing rain for interior and higher elevation locales.  Otherwise, the mix will switch to rain by mid-morning.

Watch Melissa's forecast:

The first wave of rain will be heavy at times thru approximately 2pm. According to the 700mb UVV's, the heaviest rain will be from 10am thru 3pm this afternoon for the first wave and again this evening around 8pm-12 midnight (esp. SE Mass) for the second wave.

Overall, rainfall amounts are forecasted to add up to .5-1" (1.5" isolated areas) by early tonight (Flood Watch for SE Mass).   Winds are also a concern for the South Coast/Cape/Islands as southerly winds gust between 5-60 mph this afternoon (Wind Advisory).    The rain ends around 12 midnight.

Skies clear out late tonight. The first of Meteorological Spring and/or March 1 will be sunny and breezy with highs in the upper 30s to near 40F.

This week: After today, the workweek looks rather quiet. An Alberta Clipper passes to our north and swings a cold front thru Wednesday. With very little moisture and lift, there's only a slight chance of a few flurries/snow showers.

What is the difference between Meteorological vs. Astronomical seasons?  Meteorological seasons base the dates off of temperatures while the Astronomical seasons focus on the sun angle, etc.
