Wes Welker On Toucher & Rich: Leaving Town And Brady
Wes Welker ranks first all time in Patriots history for receptions, second in receiving yards and eighth in receiving touchdowns and will be in a different uniform this season. Welker agreed to a contract with the Denver Broncos back in March for $12 million over two seasons.
The former Patriot receiver joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich and discussed leaving the Pats and his new team out in Denver.
Whenever a player comes to Boston people wonder how he'll handle all the media attention that comes along with playing in a city where sports are a huge focus. After dealing with the New England media as a member of the Patriots for five years is it refreshing to be in a place where the team isn't so concerned with how players deal with the media?
"It's kind of one less thing you have to worry about or anything like that."
When Welker signed with the Broncos he said that leaving quarterback Tom Brady was not easy.
"That was definitely probably the hardest part, leaving Tom," Welker said back in March at his introductory press conference in Denver.
Toucher & Rich asked Welker to elaborate on his relationship with Brady and what it was like to leave him, "Anytime you're good friends with somebody like that and we've become best friends, I think it's always upsetting. Whenever you play together for such a long time and have good chemistry and trust and all those things. You're kind of a little upset about that part of it, but it's part of the business."
Brady and Welker will get a chance to catch up in person during the season when the Broncos visit Gillette in Week 12. While the two will surely be happy to see each other, how will the fans react to Welker in his first visit back?
Toucher & Rich also played messages that listeners left for Welker.
