Weiland Ejected In Major League Debut; Francona Also Tossed
BOSTON (CBS/AP) - Red Sox starter Kyle Weiland has been ejected from his major league debut after hitting Baltimore's Vladimir Guerrero with a pitch.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona was also ejected after arguing in defense of his rookie pitcher in the top of the fifth inning Sunday.
Home plate umpire Marty Foster at first warned Weiland after he hit Guerrero, then Weiland apparently said something he shouldn't have and Foster quickly tossed him. Weiland, who allowed six runs on eight hits, received a warm ovation from the fans as he left the field.
Francona spent a few minutes arguing the call, then headed to join Weiland in the clubhouse.
Orioles lefty Mike Gonzlez was ejected in the bottom of the sixth inning for throwing a fastball behind David Ortiz. His manager, Buck Showalter, was also thrown from the game as the testy play between the two clubs continues.
