Kevin Weeks: Bulger Wasn't 'Coming Back To Write Memoirs'

BOSTON (CBS) – Former Whitey Bulger associate Kevin Weeks says he's not surprised by Bulger's claims that he traveled to Boston on several occasions as a wanted man.

Bulger told FBI agents he was "armed to the teeth" because he "had to take care of some unfinished business."

"If he's armed to the teeth, I don't think he's coming back to write his memoirs," Weeks told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Deb Lawler.

Weeks admitted that returning is something that Bulger would do, but also questions whether Whitey may have made up the story.

"He would come back. He's the type of the guy to drive right into the heart of where the investigation is on him just to kind of stick it to whoever's looking for him," said Weeks. "At the same time, who does he expect to find and where's he expect to find him? He can't be driving around looking for people."

Well-known defense attorney Phil Tracey also weighed in on Tuesday, talking about Bulger's possible motivation for revealing that he had returned to Boston while on the run.

"He's stabbing the bull in the side, he is just absolutely trying to torture them at this point," said Tracey. "I think he's used the FBI to the Nth degree."

Tracey noted that Bulger is unlikely to heed the advice of any attorney.

"He's different than other criminals; he's not going to listen to most attorneys so much because he thinks he's smarter than they are," said Tracey.
