Weekend Warm-Up: Spring Weather Finally Arrives
BOSTON (CBS) -- They say before you can fully recover, you have to hit rock bottom.
How does this sound for bottom of the barrel: Not only did it snow Thursday morning but the HIGH temperature in Boston was just 37 degrees - just three degrees shy of a record low maximum temperature (previously it was 34 on April 9, 1997).
Sixty-four of the last 74 days have been below average. The northeast has consistently been the coldest region in the entire nation for weeks, months even. We haven't hit 60 degrees on a weekend since last October.
The Loverboy song "Everybody's Working For The Weekend" has been in my head the last few days and I don't think it has ever been more appropriate than right now. We have been working for this weekend for literally six months.
Here is the news you have been waiting to hear. . . it's over. Put away the shovels, de-winterize the snow blowers, dig out your rakes and fertilizer, spring is finally on the way.
Seriously…no joke… no April Fools prank…this is not a dream… pinch yourself… as Barry Manilow said: "Looks like we made it!"
We are just hours away from flipping the switch. A string of 50s, 60s and eventually 70 degrees starts Friday.
We can safely say that this will be the best weekend of weather this year.
Saturday will be a bit on the breezy side with some clouds filling in during the afternoon, however temperatures will top 50.
Sunday will be an absolute dream. Tons of sunshine and likely the first 60 degree reading on a weekend in half a year.
But it doesn't end there. . . next week looks more like a typical week for May! Highs in the 60s through at least Wednesday, perhaps touching 70 at Fenway Park for the Home Opener on Monday!
It is going to look a lot more like spring around here too. With our first long stretch of sunshine and warm weather, buds will be emerging and the greens and yellows typical of this time of year will appear like magic.
While I cannot promise you won't see another flake until next winter, the odds are rising quickly.
Give yourselves a round of applause and a pat on the sore, achy back. You survived the winter of 2014-2015, our worst in recorded history. Now there's a bumpah stickah.
