Wednesday's Child: 16-Year-Old Mychael
BOSTON (CBS) -- Mychael is an African American teenager who can be articulate and have intelligent conversations with adults.
When meeting new people, he is quiet until he feels comfortable. Mychael is a good debater who would like to someday become a lawyer, but first, he might like to become a firefighter.
Mychael is a young 16-year-old and has some difficulty with transitions and independence. He likes to stay close to his foster family and other adults he trusts. Mychael talks a lot about wanting a mom and dad and having family connections he sees other young people have. He would benefit from the structure and routine of a family.
Meet Mychael
Presently in the tenth grade in a therapeutic day school, Mychael enjoys school and is doing well academically. Mychael's favorite subjects are science and art. Both on his own time and in school, Mychael likes spending time on the computer. He recently started taking karate lessons and would like to continue with them.
Mychael has an Individualized Educational Plan for social and emotional behavioral needs.
Though he is engaging and open about his feelings one-on-one, Mychael tends to isolate himself. He would benefit from a family that will support him in his growth and help him to navigate social situations.
Legally free for adoption, Mychael will need continued contact with his older sister and his visiting resource.
To learn more about Mychael, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.MAREinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
