Teen Drowns In Webster Lake Days After High School Graduation

WEBSTER (CBS) – A Worcester teen who recently graduated from high school drowned Saturday night in Webster Lake. The Worcester District Attorney's office identified the victim as 18-year-old Christensen Agnant. He graduated from South High Community School last week.

Agnant was celebrating graduation with his friends when they decided to go for a swim but something went wrong. His friends rushed into the water to try and save him. "I was like a foot distance away from him, and then my brother Jose comes in, my girlfriend comes in, everyone comes in trying to get him," said Francis Deranamie.

His friends, and an off-duty police officer, were not able to find him. His body was later recovered by dive teams.

Christensen's sister was one of many remembering him at a vigil in Worcester Sunday night. "He was kind and he was always nice to me and if I couldn't talk to anyone I would always come to him cause he's like my twin and I could tell him everything and anything," Jemima Agnant said.

The high school athlete was taking summer classes so he could attend Worcester State University in the fall.

"He was just about to start college and stuff even though he didn't know what he wanted to be yet he was going to figure it out there," Jemima said.

His sister and friends were touched by the outpouring of support at the vigil.

"Chris was just one of those kids that everybody was his friend," said South High Principal Dianne Lynch.

Grief counselors will be available for students and teachers at school on Monday.
