Forecasters say Tropical Storm Earl has made landfall near Western Head, Nova Scotia.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm came ashore around 10 a.m. EDT, and its maximum sustained winds are near 70 mph (112 kph).
The storm weakened from a Hurricane to a Tropical Storm by the time it passed through New England waters late Friday. Cape Cod and the islands saw heavy rains but no notable damage.
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency canceled a planned damage assessment Saturday morning. A spokesman said Earl "wasn't even a really bad rainstorm."
