Williams College Graduate Evan Bick served in the Army and deployed to Iraq in 2008, before serving in the National Guard. He is now studying Psychology at MSPP in a program that caters to veterans struggling to reintegrate into society.
Bick says the numbers show that 20% of all service members suffer from PTSD or some form of major depression, and on average 22 veterans die by suicide each day. He says there is such a stigma in the military about saying you need help: "I'm not going to tell you that my knee hurts, let alone my brain hurts."
Bick says to have people that 'understand that culture' makes it easier to have that first conversation, and he thinks they are starting to see that it's easier for veterans to talk with other veterans.
