WBZ-TV Accepts duPont Award For Boston Marathon Bombings Coverage
BOSTON (CBS) - A national duPont-Columbia Award was presented to WBZ-TV Tuesday night for the station's coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombings and the tumultuous days that followed.
WBZ-TV anchors Lisa Hughes and Jonathan Elias, who were at the Boston Marathon Finish Line when the bombs exploded, accepted the award at Columbia University in New York City.
The duPont jury wrote, "WBZ-TV's coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings was television journalism at its very best – informative, level headed in a time of crisis, and visually arresting."

"Police officers, witnesses and survivors we talked to, gave our coverage context, they gave it humanity and people watched right up until that moment on Friday night when they captured Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in that boat," Lisa Hughes said. "That triumph we shared with people on the streets of Watertown and Cambridge and Boston and in living rooms all over the country, perhaps the only good moment of that whole week."
Jonathan Elias acknowledged the rest of the WBZ newsroom for their hard work that week. "We had amazingly courageous reporters and producers and photographers, some of them actually putting themselves in the line of fire," Elias said.
The Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards recognize excellence in journalism. Nationally, fourteen Silver Batons were awarded this year.
