Water Main Break Drains Million Gallons From Worcester Storage Tower

WORCESTER (CBS) – A water main break drained one million gallons of water from a storage tower in Worcester.

A 65-year-old cast iron pipe on Chester Street broke around 8 p.m. Wednesday, leaving hundreds of residents in the northern part of the city without any water.

Service was restored around 2:30 a.m., but the gusher of water destroyed a large part of the street, sinking parts of it into the ground.

It's still not known was caused the pipe to crack.

The road is expected to be repaved Friday.
