Washburn With Adam Jones: Celtics Still In Hot Pursuit Of Kevin Love
BOSTON (CBS) - Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe joined The Adam Jones Show here on 98.5 The Sports Hub to address some NBA questions, including the Boston Celtics' ongoing pursuit of Kevin Love.
According to a recent article from Washburn, he states the Celtics are looking to acquire a piece that the Minnesota Timberwolves covet in order to increase their chances of landing Love, such as a player like Chandler Parsons.
On the Celtics pursuit of Love:
"It's a long process. But from what I'm told Danny Ainge is working on ways to get Kevin Love to Boston. That's why they haven't been as active in free agent talks. They've shown interest in guys, but they've kind of held back. They haven't been as aggressive as they have been in the past and that's because they're trying to figure out ways [to get Love]. They don't want to commit any more salary than they have to right now."
On the Celtics keeping James Young out of the Summer League with an injury to potentially include him in a deal for Love:
"Obviously you don't want to move the guy they just drafted, but if that's what Minnesota's asking for to have a chance to get Kevin Love, then it's a possibility."
The past two games for the Celtics at the Orlando Summer League have given fans some idea of Marcus Smart as an NBA player: an intense competitor, but not a pure point guard and below-average shooting ability.
On Marcus Smart:
"Smart hasn't played competitively since losing to Gonzaga in the NCAA tournament three months ago so it's kind of difficult to ask him to start knocking down shots. He has shown a lot of good things. Defensively he's going to be a menace. He can play both guard positions. He's tough, but yeah his shooting was his weakness at Oklahoma State and he's not gonna suddenly be a knock-down shooter in Summer League. That's going to take a lot of work."
