Warning Over Post-Storm Door-To-Door Utility Scams
BOSTON (CBS) - With hundreds of thousands of people still without power, so-called storm scammers are trying to take advantage.
Paula Flemming from the Better Business Bureau says they' been getting a bunch of calls, particularly from the Merrimack Valley region.

"They're coming to their door. These people claim to work for a particular electric company. They offer to restore power to their home for a small fee. The fee has ranged anywhere from $150 all the way up to $400," Flemming told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Laurie Kirby.

Flemming says don't let your desperation to get the power back on cloud your common sense.
"It may seem like common sense, but when you have no heat, no electricity you are in a desperate situation. But we are encouraging people to be suspicious of door-to-door workers, especially those who use scare tactics to get the job done," said Flemming.
Always ask for identification and never let any-one into your home you're not sure about.
