Walmart In Complete Denial After Mistaking Massachusetts For Maryland On Terps T-Shirt
By Michael Hurley, CBS Boston
BOSTON (CBS) -- One thing about people who are fans of the University of Maryland Terrapins is that they all probably are at least somewhat familiar with what the state of Maryland looks like.
That, however, is something the fine folks at Walmart were hoping to not be true when they rolled out this shirt celebrating the Terps, which curiously uses the shape of Massachusetts as a backdrop:
Seems like a standard goof, an honest mistake, one that could happen to any massive corporation tasked with printing hundreds of different shirts on any given day. Surely, had Walmart simply said "Whoops!" then nobody would have noticed. Instead, Walmart went into full-on denial mode:
This is, without a doubt, the single most outrageous claim in the history of mankind. For as long as humans have been able to communicate via words, not once has anyone ever used a language to make a more preposterous statement.
As a result, it's become quite the big deal on the Internet, with Sports Illustrated, The Washington Post and Deadspin -- among others -- picking up the story. As a result, Walmart had to finally admit that "Marie" from March 31 was ... misguided.
But hey, it's not all a loss for Walmart. There is at least one Maryland alum who lives in Massachusetts who's a fan of the misfit shirt.
Somebody get that man a T-shirt!
