Wakefield Starts Off Weekend Set With Twins
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox will turn to knuckleballer Tim Wakefield to start their four-game series with the Minnesota Twins at Fenway this weekend.
Boston will need Wakefield to give them some innings Friday night, after their 13-inning game Wednesday night and John Lackey's lackluster 5+ inning performance in their 11-0 loss to the Angels on Thursday. The bullpen has been stretched out over the last two games, so anything less than six innings will tax the relievers even more.
The Red Sox will see Francisco Liriano on Monday, his first start since tossing a no-hitter against the White Sox on Tuesday. Liriano walked six in his no-no while striking out just two.
The Twins are struggling just as much as Boston right now, coming in at 11-18. Their offense is near the bottom of baseball, scoring a Major League low 89 runs and hitting just .230 as a team.
