Voice of Logan Airport winner is Chris Donisi, a pipefitter from Burlington, Massachusetts: "It's just how I flow"
The Voice of Logan Airport winner is Chris Donisi, a pipefitter from Burlington, Massachusetts.
Massport, the agency that runs the airport, made the announcement Thursday morning and posted his audition video on their website.
According to Massport, more than 6,000 people auditioned for the role and 35,000 people voted in the contest.
Donisi was one of the eight finalists chosen.
"I'm a home grown Boston guy, born just outside of the city in East Arlington. And I don't think I honestly deserve anything but I just know this city and its roots and how the people move and flow around here. And everyone has always told me to do voice work so when I seen this I said what a perfect opportunity to give it a shot and how perfect it would be in my home town at Logan," Donisi said in a statement Thursday.
Donisi was later interviewed on CBS Mornings where Gayle King asked him if "he laid it on extra thick" with his Boston accent for the contest.
"It's just how I flow," he said in his deep, baritone voice.
Donisi's mother told him about the competition. He said people have been noticing his distinctive voice since he was about 11 or 12 years old.
"It wasn't any like transition into it, it was just - bang!" he told CBS. "I've never thought about really doing any type of voicework. People have been telling me for years."
When asked about his favorite Boston phrase, he went with the classic Matt Damon line from "Good Will Hunting" - "How do you like them apples?"
Now his family and friends will hear his voice whenever they go to Logan Airport.
"I think it's so cool. I'm so excited about that. I'm sure there's going to be some surprised faces, walking and hearing my voice. I'll probably be one of them," Donisi said.
