Vinatieri: Reggie Wayne 'Still An Unbelievably Talented Receiver'

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts have always had a nice rivalry going, but that hasn't stopped a few players from switching sidelines.

The most notable is Adam Vinatieri, who left New England for Indianapolis back in 2006 after winning three Super Bowls with the Patriots.

With his defection to the Colts, the kicker has seen Reggie Wayne up close for the last nine seasons, taking the field to boot the extra point following the receiver's 54 touchdowns over that span.

The 36-year-old Wayne wasn't brought back by the Colts over the offseason, and reportedly agreed to sign with New England on Monday. Much like the thought of Vinatieri in a Colts uniform haunted Patriots fans after he signed with the enemy, Vinatieri is experiencing similar thoughts this afternoon.

Even with the wear and tear of 14 NFL seasons, Vinatieri knows that his now former teammate can still put up big numbers.

"I have a lot of fear watching if he's wearing a different jersey on the other side. It makes me nervous," Vinatieri said Monday. "He is one of the most competitive guys I've ever seen in my life. If he's healthy, he's awesome. They say that he may not be as fast, but don't believe any of that stuff. Reggie is the kind of guy who catches everything and finds a way to get open. He's so competitive that he's still an unbelievably talented receiver.

"It will be weird to see him on the field in [Week 6], but I'll be happy to see him," Vinatieri added about the six-time Pro Bowl receiver. "I hope he doesn't put up too many stats against us."
