Victim's mom: Craigslist slaying `destroyed' her
The mother of a masseuse allegedly killed by a Boston University medical student she met through Craigslist says he "can never escape God's justice."
A relative read the statement of Carmen Guzman, mother of 25-year-old Julissa Brisman of New York City, on Thursday. Charges were formally dropped earlier in the day against 24-year-old Philip Markoff, who committed suicide last month as he awaited trial for Brisman's slaying.
Guzman said Markoff "destroyed my life and that of my family" and his suicide "ratified his cowardice." Her comments were presented instead of a victim impact statement that might have come at a trial.
Prosecutors had said Markoff beat and shot Brisman at a Boston hotel in 2009. She was one of three women he was accused of robbing or attacking after meeting them through Craigslist.
