Victim's Husband Testifies In NH Home Invasion Murder Trial
NASHUA, N.H. (AP) -- The father of a New Hampshire girl who was maimed during a deadly home invasion while he was away on business tells jurors he no longer travels for work.
David Cates of Mont Vernon testified Monday in the insanity case of 21-year-old Christopher Gribble.
Gribble has admitted hacking to death Cates' wife, Kimberly, and maiming the couple's 11-year-old daughter, Jaimie, but says he is not guilty by reason of insanity.
Cates works as an engineer with BAE Systems, a global defense and security company.
He wept as a police sergeant described Jaimie's slash wounds and her whispers to police that she thought her mommy was dead.
Jaimie survived the attacks by playing dead. She lost part of her left foot and suffered 18 wounds and a broken jaw.
