Victim Remains In Coma 18 Days After Arborway Crash
BOSTON (CBS) -- Eighteen days after the Arborway car crash in Jamaica Plain, 33-year-old Kevin Cellucci is still fighting for his life at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
"It's very difficult," Cellucci's cousin, Pete Alvarado told WBZ-TV. "We've never have felt like this. Our world is upside down," Alvarado said.
Cellucci suffered a serious brain injury after police say an 18-year-old driver lost control of his car, crossed the median strip and smashed into Cellucci's pick-up truck.
Four other teens were also injured but are expected to be okay. However, Cellucci's situation remains uncertain.
"He has many broken bones," Alvarado said. "He's still in a coma with very little change. We are hoping he pulls out of the coma."
Cellucci is a carpenter and the father of three boys including an 8-week-old.
Alvarado says he goes to the hospital every day to sit by his cousin's side.
"I tell him about his boys and tell them they're okay and waiting for him when he comes out along with his wife Tina," Alvarado said.
The family established the Kevin Cellucci Foundation to help cover the cost of medical bills. There will also be a benefit for the family on November 2.
The 18-year-old driver, Nikolas Papadopoulos, is now facing criminal for allegedly driving 80 mph on the Arborway.
