Victim Outrage Over Bernard Law Birthday Bash

BOSTON (CBS) - Boston-area victims of the Catholic Church sex abuse scandal are furious over a big eightieth birthday bash being held in Italy for former Boston Archbishop Cardinal Bernard Law.

Between 80 and 100 people will attend the lavish birthday celebration in Rome according to the Boston Herald.

Cardinal Law was reassigned to Rome in the wake of the church abuse scandal.

Law has never been charged, but victims have accused him of protecting known pedophile priests.

Attorney Mitchell Garabedian, who represented many of the abuse victims, tells WBZ NewsRadio 1030 that Cardinal Law should be in Boston having discussions with those who were sexually molested by priests when he was in charge of the Boston Archdiocese.

"It's a matter of the church just ignoring the victims once again, continuing their plan of secrecy and not allowing openness in terms of what happened and why it happened with regard to innocent children being sexually molested," said Garabedian.

Coincidentally, Law`s successor, Cardinal Sean O'Malley is in Rome right now to visit with the pope.

A spokesperson says he will not be attending the party.
