Verizon Fiber Optic Cables Restored Days After Lawrence Fire

LAWRENCE (CBS) - There is good news for some Verizon customers in the Merrimac Valley.

Service has been restored to many of the thousands of customers impacted by a fire underneath a bridge in Lawrence.

The small fire was hot enough to melt copper and fiber optic cables used by customers in several communities.

Work crews have spent the past few days sorting, splicing and reattaching connections.

Verizon's Phil Santoro says fiber optic service is back and crews are continuing work on restoring service to copper lines.

Copper wires impact Verizon land lines and DSL service. No timetable on when they'll be restored.
