Varitek OK, Behind Plate For Red Sox
BOSTON (CBS) - Less than 24-hours after getting hit by a pitch on his right knee, catcher Jason Varitek is back behind the plate for the Boston Red Sox.
Varitek was plunked by Yankees started Ivan Nova Sunday night in the fifth inning. The Red Sox captain remained in the game until hitting a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning. Tek came out after the hit, and his status was uncertain for Monday night's series opener against the Orioles in Baltimore.

With Josh Beckett on the mound, it would be hard to imagine anyone but Varitek behind the plate. The Sox captain has caught all but one of Beckett's starts this season.
The Red Sox also called up catcher Luis Exposito for insurance, in case Varitek's knee flares up again. With Jarrod Saltalamacchia catching 16 innings on Sunday, he could use a day off from behind the plate.
