UVM Coach John Becker Hopeful Catamounts Can Make School History

BOSTON (CBS) -- The University of Vermont Catamounts have a chance Wednesday night to do something that's been done exactly once in the program's near-100-year history: Win an NCAA Tournament game.

UVM head coach John Becker took a moment prior to Wednesday night's game against Lamar to speak with WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Drew Moholland.

"It's been a really great season for us," Becker said. "I was able to break the first year head coaching wins record at the University of Vermont and we were able to win the conference championship and hopefully we can get our second NCAA win all time in the 98 years of Vermont basketball. We have an opportunity tonight, and we're looking forward to trying to take advantage of it."

Becker said accomplishing that goal will depend on the players' being able to keep their nerves under control.

"Just continuing the same theme of playing with composure and trying to stay in the moment and not get too far ahead of ourselves, not get too up, not get too down and just stay the course and take it possession by possession," he said.
