US Ranger from NH remembered as dedicated soldier
A U.S. Army Ranger from New Hampshire who was killed earlier this month in Afghanistan was remembered at his funeral as a dedicated soldier.
Twenty-three-year-old Sgt. Andrew Nicol of Kensington died Aug. 8 after being wounded by an improvised explosive device in Kandahar Province. Nicol served five tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned a Medal of Valor in 2008. He also was awarded two Bronze stars.
His funeral was held Wednesday morning at Holy Family Parish in Amesbury, Mass. He will be buried at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at 4 p.m.
Gov. John Lynch has directed that flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday to honor Nicol.
