Unemployment Rate Drops As State Adds 15K Jobs In February
BOSTON (CBS/AP) - The state of Massachusetts added more than 15,000 jobs in the month of February.
Officials say that sent the unemployment rate down from 8.3 percent in January to 8.2 percent.
That's below the national average, 8.9 percent.
Education and health services saw the largest increases.
Jobs were also added in leisure and hospitality; professional, scientific and business services; trade, transportation and utilities; and financial activities.
Manufacturing, construction and government lost jobs. The upbeat employment report comes as Fidelity Investments announced this week it would shift more than 1,000 jobs out of Massachusetts over the next two years.
