Ukranian Man Disrupts Boston To Utah Flight After Being Drunk For 50 Days
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A detention hearing has been scheduled Friday for a Ukrainian man accused of disrupting a Salt Lake City-bound Delta Air Lines flight after being drunk for 50 days.
Forty-six-year-old Anatoliy N. Baranovich made his initial appearance in federal court Wednesday on complaints of damaging and disabling an aircraft and interfering with a flight crew.
Federal authorities say Baranovich woke up during the plane's descent, started yelling in Russian because he believed the wing of the airplane was on fire and had to be restrained by passengers.
According to the criminal complaint, Baranovich had been visiting family in the Ukraine, got drunk for the entire 50 days and drank more while traveling. He boarded the flight in Boston and was headed to Portland, Ore.
