Uber's Monthly Pass Lets Some Boston Riders Avoid Surge Pricing

BOSTON (CBS) – Uber is expanding a new program in Boston that lets some riders skip surge fees during high-demand times.

The ride-sharing service is selling a POOL Pass for the month of June. The $40 pass ensures that the user will get to take 20 pool rides (trips with strangers) for a flat fee of $2 each time.

"This means you'll only pay $4 per trip when factoring in the price of the pass," Uber says.

The pass covers riders in much of Boston and Cambridge, Somerville, Charlestown, Allston and Brighton.

The June passes can be bought using the Uber app until Friday at 7 p.m.
