U.S. Tightens Security After Terror Attack In France
BOSTON (CBS) - In the wake of the terror attack in France, the U.S. is tightening up its own security.
Officials plan to boost patrols around government buildings and increase random bag searches at airports.
Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson met specifically with community leaders in Boston along with several other cities.
At Logan Airport, police and TSA agents are much more visible on Monday. Passengers and carry-on luggage are now subject to random screening. Travelers seem to be on board.
"I think it's amazing," a woman said. "It's great and people just have to be patient."
"I remember the changes after September 11, and that was a drastic change, so I feel like it's for the best," another traveler said.
It's not just Logan; security at federal buildings all over Boston has been beefed up.
"I think it's extremely important to remind people to be aware and to see something and say something," WBZ Security Analyst Ed Davis said. "It's just smart at this time to be vigilant."
The new measures include an effort to engage community organizations to counter violent extremism.
At Logan, a traveler just in from Paris says intense security is a fact of life back home.
"We are aware of that danger but we all know that we French enjoy their life and we don't want fear to get over our everyday life," Isabelle DuMortier said. "So I think this is the feeling of all the French people."
