U.S. Attorney: 'The End Of An Era That Was Very Ugly'
BOSTON (CBS) -- U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz says she hopes the verdict marks "the end of an era that was very ugly in Boston's history."

Bulger was one of the nation's most-wanted fugitives after he fled Boston ahead of a 1994 indictment. He was captured in Santa Monica, Calif., in 2011.
"This day of reckoning has been a long-time coming. Too long," Ortiz said outside the courthouse after the verdict was read.

Bulger was charged primarily with racketeering, a catchall offense that listed 33 criminal acts — among them, 19 murders that he allegedly helped orchestrate or carried out himself during the 1970s and '80s while he led the Winter Hill Gang, Boston's ruthless Irish mob. The racketeering charge also included acts of extortion, money-laundering and drug dealing.
The jury could not come to an unanimous decision on the murder of Debra Davis, resulting in a 'No Finding' verdict.
"My heart breaks for her family. The jury clearly was torn," Ortiz said. "Mr. Bulger was not found innocent."
