Two Springfield Catholic Schools Relocate After Tornadoes
SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- New quarters have been found for a pair of tornado-damaged Catholic schools in Springfield.
Bishop Timothy McDonnell of the Roman Catholic diocese of Springfield announced on Monday that Cathedral High School will temporarily relocate to the Memorial School building in the town of Wilbraham. Bus transportation will be provided and at least one modular unit will be added for non-academic functions.
Students at St. Michael's Academy Middle School, meanwhile, will have to move only a few blocks away to a building at the Holy Cross parish in Springfield.
The diocese expects both schools to eventually return to their original locations in the city's East Forest Park neighborhood.
Officials have been seeking temporary space since the June 1 tornadoes that struck portions of central and western Massachusetts.
