One Person Killed In Dorchester Shooting Police Say May Be Gang Related
BOSTON (CBS) -- The latest shooting in Boston took place Thursday evening in Dorchester.
One of the victims, a young man who was 18-21 years-old died from his wounds. The other victim was a 14-year-old who was taken to Boston Children's Hospital with a shot in the leg.
The tragic thing is that the shooting took place less than 50-feet from where two Boston Police Officers were walking their beat.
"They're the ones who heard the shots and they were on the scene with in seconds so. We were here it's just a matter it shows you how brazen these kids are," Police Commissioner Bill Evans said.
Evans believes he knows the motive behind the shootings.
"We believe this is gang related and it's targeted," he said.
Boston Police shut down Blue Hill Avenue in the area of Washington and Cheney Streets Thursday evening as they investigate the shooting death of a young man between the ages of 18 and 21 years old.
The homicide is the latest act of violence over the last 24 hours and Evans said, "The volume has picked up over the last week."
This morning in Hyde Park, a 59 year woman was kidnapped at gun point from her home. She was assaulted and forced to get money from an ATM. Police are still looking for the four suspects.
In a separate incident on Columbia Street in Dorchester, Boston Police took a person into custody after a brief standoff in connection to a shooting.
And in a third incident, the homicide unite is investigating a deadly stabbing of an 18-year-old on Warren Street in Roxbury.
Residents of the Blue Hill area are fed up.
"I'm getting tired of it I really am. It's like a day don't pass that someone isn't getting hurt," Judy Blackwell said.
Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans says the stretch around the 4th of July is typically a violent one that they prepare for.
"This is all of us have to work together here and slow it down and hopefully keeps the rest of the summer a safe summer," Evans said.
Commissioner Evans says he'll be meeting with Mayor Walsh and other city leaders to address this recent uptick in violence.
As far as this latest shooting here on Blue Hill Ave, no arrests have been made and it remains under investigation.
