Two Charged In Robberies Downtown Boston
BOSTON (CBS) --- Police say two men are in custody in connection with several robberies downtown over the weekend.
Five different businesses were robbed in Boston this weekend in less than 24 hours. On Sunday, police released surveillance photos hoping the public would help bring the suspects to justice.
Police say around 8:30 p.m. Sunday night, Richard Puopolo, 27, turned himself in to detectives after he saw the surveillance photos. Puopolo is charged with unarmed robbery, armed robbery, and possession class E drugs.
Later Sunday night, while on patrol in the area of Chinatown, officers recognized and positively identified Carlos Venable, 43, of Boston as a wanted suspect in connection with local commercial robberies.
He was placed under arrest and charged with unarmed robbery, and armed robbery.
Both suspects are expected to appear in Boston Municipal Court Monday.
The five downtown robberies took place between 4 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday.
The businesses robbed include:
- At about 4 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a robbery in progress at Venice Convenience Store on Cooper Street.
- At about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, police got a call about an armed robbery in progress at the 7-11 on East India Row. The victim said a man had attempted to rob his business.
- At about 8 p.m. Saturday, police responded to Salem Market on Salem Street. The store owner said he had been robbed of money.
- At about 3 a.m. Sunday, there was another armed robbery at a 7-11 store on State Street. The victim said he had been robbed of money by two white male suspects.
- At about 7:22 a.m. Sunday, the Starbucks on Atlantic Avenue was robbed of money.
