Two Everett Janitors On Leave After "Bizarre" Accusations
EVERETT (CBS) - Josephine Mucci lives right across the street from the George Keverian Elementary School in Everett. The investigation into a pair of custodians there has her worried.
"It sickens you, it just sickens you," she said. Adding that even though investigators have not released the details of the accusations against the men, she still worries, "that the kids are not safe, you know. They come to school and they're not safe."
Two janitors at Keverian are off the job, after a student there came forward with startling accusations that, for now, are confidential.
WBZ-TV's Jim Armstrong reports
The child's parents brought their claims to the attention of Everett police on Thursday. Detectives did some preliminary investigating and on Friday morning, police told school officials what was going on. As soon as administrators learned of the allegations, they say they decided to put the two men on paid leave.
Everett Superintendent of Schools Frederick Foresteire tells WBZ that it might not be correct to say that any of the students at this school were or are "in danger".
"I mean, we just don't even know if [the accusation is] true. The allegation is kind of bizarre, without getting into it," he said.
Foresteire says this is an isolated incident and involved only one child.
"I just hope that they do the investigation as quickly as possible," he explained. "As far as we know, they are two fine men, they've been with us for a number of years, we've never had an issue with them. We just hope it gets resolved quickly."
Both men will remain on paid leave until the investigation is complete.
