Tutor From Stonehill College Charged With Raping Third-Grader
UPDATE: Charges against Treseler were dropped in April 2011, after a Grand Jury failed to indict.
BROCKTON (CBS) - A math tutor at Brockton's Angelo Elementary School has been charged with raping a child.
Twenty-one-year-old Kevin Treseler of Millis, who was a junior at Stonehill College, was arrested Monday.
Treseler was tutoring students as a part of Stonehill's work-study program. He has since been suspended from school.
Prosecutors say the victim is a third-grader at the school. They believe the attacks took place at the school and during school hours.
Prosecutor Tara Cappola told a judge, "he put his hands down the front and back of the girl's pants...and sexually assaulted her."
According to prosecutors, the little girl told investigators Treseler threatened her by saying, "If you tell police, I'll get you...and I'll deny it."
"Our focus at this time is on supporting the child and her classmates and maintaining a safe and nurturing learning environment," Brockton Public Schools said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. "We are providing counseling and other services to the child and to any student who needs it."
The school says it performs CORI checks on all of its tutors. Treseler's attorney says he was a model student who played football in high school and speaks three languages.
Officials are cooperating with the police investigation.
Treseler was arraigned Tuesday on two counts of rape of a child with force, and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. He was being held on $20,000 bail.
