Truck Hits Plane At Logan Airport
BOSTON (CBS) -- A catering truck hit a JetBlue plane at Logan Airport in Boston Tuesday evening.
A spokesperson for the airport says an Airbus 320 was at Gate 28 when the truck hit it. The hit damaged the tip of the left wing. State police says the truck was backing up next to the plane to load cargo onto the aircraft.
According to JetBlue's website, the plane flew Flight 464 and landed at Logan at 3:50 p.m. from Fort Myers, Fla.
WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reports.
An FAA spokesperson says the hit happened at 4:05 p.m. and there were still two people were still on the plane at the time. One 90-year-old woman from Falmouth had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for an injury that occurred shortly after the plane was hit.
The incident follows a string of troubling aviation headlines including a collision at JFK Airport in New York last week when an Air France super jumbo jet clipped the tail of a plane from Boston that was taxiing.
Tuesday's incident is not the first time Logan Airport has dealt with traffic problems on its grounds. In 2009, a construction vehicle crossed the runway as a plane was speeding up to take off. It didn't hit the plane then, but it raised safety questions among aviation experts.
Police cited a JetBlue worker for not staying with the truck driver. The FAA tells us a federal agent will be at LoganWednesday to look into why this happened.
