Truck Driver Faces Vehicular Homicide Charge In Fatal Pedestrian Crash
WORCESTER (CBS) -- The tractor-trailer driver who struck two pedestrians, killing one of them, in Worcester Thursday night has been charged with vehicular homicide.
The crash in Kelley Square killed 24-year-old Sarah Ewing of Hudson, who was pinned by the rear wheels of the truck, Worcester police said. A 25-year-old man from Oxford's foot was run over and he's still hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police identified the truck driver as 62-year-old Gary Shray of Oriental, North Carolina. He's also facing a charge of negligent operation.
According to authorities, the truck had pulled over in the busy intersection at about 9:30 p.m. to let a fire truck pass. The truck reportedly turned too sharply and knocked down a light pole, which in turned forced the two pedestrians forward into the path of the vehicle.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Ewing's family with funeral costs.
