Ramp Closed After Ink Spill On 128 In Peabody

PEABODY (CBS) – A tractor-trailer rollover that left a colorful mess on the ramp from Route 128 north to Interstate 95 north Wednesday morning and will impact the the afternoon and evening commute as well.

The UPS truck was carrying industrial ink cartridges when State Police say the driver failed to negotiate the turn and crashed just after 6 a.m.

The ink spilled across the road and police shut down the ramp immediately for the cleanup.

Later in the afternoon, officials determined that approximately 500 feet of roadway on the ramp will have to be replaced, meaning the ramp will remain closed. Troopers said numerous detour signs were set up in the meantime.

State police say the driver was not hurt, but he was taken away from the scene on a stretcher.

His name was not released. He's said to be 36-years-old and a driver for UPS for the last 16 years.

The ink was for a newspaper in Portland, Maine and is not considered hazardous.
