Tricky Forecast, But Most Places Can Expect Snow

BOSTON (CBS) - The forecast is finally coming into focus a bit, but some questions still remain for this weekend.

Here is the latest: this storm will come in two parts.

Part one is during the day on Saturday; a band of light-to-at-worst-moderate snow will work from west to east across Massachusetts.

Accumulation from this band will only be a dusting to an inch or so - nothing that disruptive.

The bigger potential comes later Saturday night and Sunday morning when a coastal storm begins to develop well offshore.

This is what our weather models have had a very difficult time forecasting. It is essentially developing into a very powerful ocean storm as it passes by Southern New England. As of now it appears the best chance to catch some of this development and therefore some significant snow accumulation would be in extreme Eastern Massachusetts.

We are forecasting 2-4" for Boston and Eastern Mass. and up to 4-6" over the South Shore and Cape Cod.

Farther north and west of Boston, very little snow accumulation is expected, with 0-2" overnight.

This is a very complex storm and there is still time for this forecast to change in either direction.

If you have travel plans later on Saturday or Sunday please stay tuned to updates.
