Trial Begins In 1969 Cold Case Murder Of Tewksbury Boy
WOBURN (AP) — Opening statements in the trial of one of three men charged in connection with the slaying of a Massachusetts teenager more than 43 years ago are scheduled to get under way.
Michael Ferreira of Salem, N.H., is charged with murder in the September 1969 death of 15-year-old John McCabe of Tewksbury.
Prosecutors say McCabe was kidnapped after leaving a dance and assaulted by three older teens who wanted to teach him a lesson for flirting with the girlfriend of one of them. He died of asphyxiation after being bound and gagged and left in a Lowell field.
The now 58-year-old Ferreira was arrested in April 2011. He has pleaded not guilty.
Opening statements are expected Tuesday in Middlesex Superior Court, following the completion of jury selection, which started Monday.
