Trial Begins For Man Charged In Grisly Attack On Harvard Researcher, Boy
WOBURN (CBS) - The man charged with a brutal attack on a Harvard researcher and his 11-year-old son is representing himself at his trial.
Prosecutors say 34-year old Marcos Colono entered the researcher's Cambridge home in the middle of the night back in October 2010, stabbed the man 11 times and then raped the boy. Both survived.
Prosecutor Thomas O'Reilly recounted the grisly incident during his opening statement Thursday in Middlesex Superior Court.
Colono declined to present a statement on his own behalf.
A 911 call from the boy asking for help and describing the scene was played in court as testimony began Thursday.
Colono's brother, Michael Colono, was killed in a street fight in 2003 with Harvard graduate student Alexander Pring-Wilson.
