Train Crash Simulation Drill Planned For Sunday In Waltham
WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) — Firefighters in Waltham say they will practice responding to a train crash on Sunday in a rescue drill that will cause a traffic detour.
The training drill will happen at the city's Beaver Street railroad crossing near Waverly Oaks Road starting at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
Authorities say a portion of Beaver Street will be closed for about five hours.
The exercise will simulate a crash involving a car, a tractor-trailer and a MBTA commuter rail train.
Fire Lt. Mike Murphy says firefighters will practice rescuing dozens of people, including by evacuating the train and extricating people from the car.
The supposed victims will be volunteers, including fire department members and EMT students.
