Tractor-Trailer Hits Several Cars On I-495 South Near I-93 In Andover
ANDOVER (CBS) – A tractor-trailer collided with several cars and then rolled over on Interstate 495 in Andover early Tuesday morning, backing up rush-hour traffic at least six miles.
The truck hauling potatoes lost control and hit at least eight cars, according to Total Traffic, and ended up on its side in the median at exit 40 (I-93) on 495 south around 5:30 a.m.
State Police said five people were taken to the hospital for evaluation, including the truck driver, but all of the injuries appeared to be minor.
The southbound lanes of 495 were closed temporarily after the crash.
All lanes and ramps were re-opened around 7:30 a.m. even though the truck remained in the median. MassDOT waited until rush hour was over to remove the truck.
There's no word yet on what caused the truck driver to lose control.
State Police shut down the ramp to 495 south from 93 north for the cleanup and investigation, leaving drivers with heavy delays.
No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
